Spring Cleaning

Hey y'all!  Thank you for sticking it out with me as I make changes yet again to this blog.  I have found a design that'll carry through until a designer is found that that can provide 4-6 color schemes with the same layout with easy transition - at an agreeable price.  For this new design though, it will take some time to get the coding right, etc..  so it'll look a bit wonky for a while.

I like change.  Change can be good most times.

For reference...
When it comes to our home, I get bored easy with "the look" and feel of a room when I walk in if it's been like that for some time.  I like to reorganize the layout of the furniture and take the opportunity to clean where it doesn't always get it, like under the sofa or behind the TV at Dust Bunny Metro.  So, when I reorganize/clean, whatever room it is that I'm working on (or bored the most with)...  it gets tossed.  Yes, literally, well almost.  Everything gets pulled out, sheets come off beds, curtains/drapes off windows, electronic equipment unplugged and pulled out.

My husband hates it when I do this cause I never get it all done in one day and more importantly, I don't plan it.  Yeah, I know.  Heather, I'll get it done one day...  I promise.  BUT, when it is done, it feels so good.  Fresh.  Clean.  Relaxing.  Almost like therapy, ha ha.

Same goes for my blog.  I get bored easy with the same layouts day in and day out.  Soooooo, changing the layout and cleaning it up can be bit of a challenge for this novice.  But I won't let it hinder me cause that is how I learn...  by doing.

I hope you stick around.

Have a Terrific Tuesday!  Until Next Time.

Oops!

This is what I get for trying to give my blog a make over... late at night.  And the back up function doesn't quite work the way I was expecting it too, so...  here is a short list of what I learned about taking the D.I.Y. plunge.  And knowing that I won't be able to work on it again until Sunday night, I won't be making this mistake again.

1) keep a written log or copy/paste to a word doc of all html elements

2) know what you want

3) don't go about it on a whim

4) tackle your project when you are rested and energized

5) consult other blog resources such as Blogger Buster or Blogging Basics 101
I love both of these resources for easy tutorials and hacks to customizing your blog

6) if all else fails, leave it to the professionals...  know of any?  I think I'm at that point.  ugh!

How about you?  Are you one to do it yourself or have you found success by getting outside help?  Seriously, please share!

Have a Super Sunday!

Want an Hour of Peace and Quiet?

Don't know what you have until it's gone.

Recently I enjoyed, for a short time, our power being shut off for water line repairs.  It was so peaceful in the house, not even the hum of the refrigerator or ceiling fan were in the background.  Imagine pitch black in the dark of night, not being able to see a thing, except for the ears instead of your eyes.

It's amazing how much energy passes through you every day and you don't really notice it cause it is always there.  Then when it was cut off, I really noticed it.  I couldn't believe the difference.  I really didn't want to turn the power back on, but then that pesky refrigerator would thaw and food would go to waste.

Did I mention it was peaceful?  It was as if a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders.  It was weird.  It was great!

Need an hour yourself?  Well, I invite you to join me and it won't co$t you a thing!  For one hour on March 28th at 8:30 pm (your local time), no matter where you are on the planet, shut off the power.  The initiative is to shut off your lights, but I challenge you to go a step further and cut all power.  Do NOT cut power to life saving machines.  Common sense please, no one is to get hurt!

There are so many things you can do for one hour, the possibilities are endless!  For me, that day the power was off, I honestly just sat on the couch in awe.  It was in the afternoon and the kids were just running around, playing and I was just in awe of the peace that over came me even with all three little one screaming and running about.

Yes, you are only one person or one family, but watch the video and be moved.  Now can you imagine for a moment the peace Mother Earth will feel?

Still not convinced?  Watch the video and be moved.  I'll post again closer to the date and of course after...  I'd love to hear what you did with that hour.

Global Food Crisis Day ~ March 11

Although most Americans do not know what it is like to go hungry or have the fear of not knowing where the next meal will come from to feed their children, some of us have.

The recent political and global economic news certainly overshadows what the UN World Food Programme calls the current global food crisis “a phenomenon, a silent tsunami,” that is affecting millions of families in every nation on every continent.

This global food crisis is more rapid, urgent and devastating than any other in the history of our planet.  On any given day, there are 25-THOUSAND starvation related deaths around the world.  EACH.  DAY.  What is heartbreaking is that 12-THOUSAND among those… are children.

Because of this, Compassion International has designated today, Wednesday, March 11, 2009, as Global Food Crisis Day and is partnering up with anyone willing to spread the word and help fight the world food crisis.  You may ask why this crisis is happening.  Bottom line:

The cost of food staples have roughly doubled in many countries where Compassion serves. Some of the original factors that turned this trend into a world calamity recently include unstable oil prices, increased meat consumption in countries like India and China, droughts in major crop-producing countries, and increased production of biofuels.

By supporting and donating to the Global Food Crisis Fund, you’ll be helping them to:

     >>  provide food vouchers to children and families needing immediate relief.
     >>  provide seeds and agricultural tools so that families can grow their own food as well as earn extra income.
     >>  provide supplemental nutrition services at Compassion-assisted centers around the world.

Your support and prayers are needed and much appreciated.  Go here to visit the site, make a donation, grab a button for your blog or all of the above.  :)
