Vocabulary Reprogramming

Pottie training brings a whole new vocabulary to you, your family and little one(s) that you are trying to "train". You get all kinds of advise and hear others' experiences - sometimes it helps and yet sometimes it doesn't really quite matter.

As for our three, Tyson being the oldest by 11 months before his twin sisters, we thought for sure that since "boys are harder to pottie train", all three would be done around the same time.

Well, we started off with all three of them, putting them in panties, using the big boy and big girl talk and celebrating little victories along the way.

It was Isabelle who went first and that was it. Emma was promising to be the one to master "it" and lead the way for her older brother and younger sister; however, that really wasn't meant to be either.

Now, who says boys are harder? While going through this transition, we soon realized that although Isabelle was the first to "go", she really wasn't ready. Emma the more dominant of the three had decided she will some days and won't some days - I believe she did this to remain in control. And then there is Tyson.

One night, I forgot to put a diaper on him for overnight accidents and guess what?! No accident! His bed was as dry as it was the night before. The next night, Loren reminded me to put on a diaper and I declined and said, well let's see what happens.

To this day Tyson has had very few accidents and those can't really be pinned on him because sometimes we'd forget not to give him liquids later in the evening. Now, he will get up in the middle of the night to go pottie. He and we have never looked back since.

Emma is still working on it and doing quite well. She will wake up in the middle of the night crying and moaning - and I just get up with her and take her to the pottie. She goes and I take her back to bed and all is well. Most times. Sometimes I don't hear her and then there is an occasional accident, but she will eventually get it and remember what to do and go on her own. Who knows, maybe she does already and since we are sleeping, don't know it.

Isabelle wants nothing to do with it; however, every once in a while, she'll strip off her diaper and say panties and go put on a pair only to pee in them, then go sit on the pottie. She'll get there as she does with all of her milestones - in her own time.

Now we go through a pack of 60 diapers in 2 weeks vs. a Sam's Club case a week. Whew!
